Overview

The MBA develops business knowledge and practical skills to help graduates advance their careers in today’s competitive global markets. Students gain a broad understanding of contemporary management operations, learn industry-relevant skills and develop solutions to complex business situations. They enhance their professional expertise by completing practical assessment activities in leadership, problem solving and communication skills. The MBA provides the option to study broadly across a comprehensive suite of business disciplines and the opportunity to specialise.

Designed for those actively working in professional business roles, the MBA includes a research project which students apply directly to their workplace.

A Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate in Business are also available.

Students who have completed a relevant Bachelor degree may receive four units of advanced standing towards the Masters degree

Students may be required to study four foundation units. They then study eight core units and select either a specialisation, which includes an industry research project, or two elective units in addition to the industry research project. By studying a specialisation, candidates build substantial and specialised expertise to complement the general management applications they learn in the core units.

Entry requirements

  1. Applicants for admission to candidature in the Master of Business Administration may be selected where they can demonstrate professional standing approved by the School Board to be equivalent to the requirements of Rule 2, Section 3.
  2. With reference to Schedule B in Rule 2, Section 1 the level of attainment should be at least equivalent to IELTS 6.5.

Credit for prior learning

  1. Candidates who have completed a Bachelor Degree in a cognate field may be granted four (4) units of Advanced Standing from Part C of the Schedule;
  2. Candidates who have completed a Graduate Certificate in Business or equivalent may be granted four (4) units of Advanced Standing from Part C of the Schedule;
  3. Candidates who have completed a Bachelor Honours Degree in a cognate field may be granted four (4) units of Advanced Standing from Part C and four (4) units from Part B of the Schedule;
  4. Candidates who have completed a Graduate Diploma in Business or equivalent may be granted four (4) units of Advanced Standing from Part C and four (4) units from Part A of the Schedule;
  5. Candidates who can demonstrate academic or professional standing approved by the School Board to be equivalent to the requirements of Advanced Standing Rules (a–d) may be awarded the equivalent advanced standing.
  6. Notwithstanding Rule 2 Section 4 of the University’s Rules Relating to Awards, candidates for the Master of Business Administration, who have completed units through the Executive Management Program offered by the School, may be granted advanced standing for these units.
  7. Candidates for the Master of Business Administration may be granted advanced standing of up to four (4) units on the basis of five (5) years relevant work experience or professional qualifications obtained through formal or non-formal study

Course requirements

  1. To be eligible for the Master of Business Administration with a named specialisation a candidate must complete all units listed in Part A and Part C as well as one (1) specialisation from Part B equal to 48 credit points;
  2. To be eligible for the Master of Business Administration without a named specialisation a candidate must complete all units listed in Part A and Part C as well as any units from Part B equal to 48 credit points, including MNG93003 Industry Research Project;
  3. As an alternative to Course Requirement Rule (a), a candidate who has been awarded advanced standing in four (4) units in Part C may complete all units listed in Part A and two (2) specialisations from Part B. Where completing two specialisations would require students to repeat MNG93003 Industry Research Project OR MNG03424 Capstone Project in Tourism and Hospitality Independent Study in Gastronomic Tourism, substitute units may be approved by the course coordinator.
  4. A candidate, who, while enrolled in the Master of Business Administration, has completed eight (8) units with a minimum of six (6) units from Part A of the Schedule of Units attached to these Rules, may elect to be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration following withdrawal from candidature for the Master award.
  5. A candidate who, while enrolled in the Master of Business Administration, has completed four (4) units from Part A of the Schedule of Units attached to these Rules may elect to be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration following withdrawal from candidature for the Master award.
