Overview
The Graduate Certificate in International Tourism and Hotel Management covers four units of the Master of International Tourism and Hotel Management, from topics including but not limited to employee relations, event planning and management, financial analysis, gaming operations, destination marketing, and tourism and hospitality management. There is also an optional workplace internship.
The Graduate Certificate in International Tourism and Hotel Management is a pathway award. Students who complete the Graduate Diploma are awarded four units of advanced standing towards the Master of International Tourism and Hotel Management.

Students may choose to undertake a 300-hour internship (equivalent to two units) in either a paid or volunteer role. This practical experience, combined with theoretical understanding, enhances the learning experience for students who have a professional and personal interest in this high growth area.
Students are responsible for securing their internship placement and are given extensive assistance in interview and application procedures, access to an extensive database of potential employers and roles and ongoing support from the dedicated work integrated learning team.

Entry requirements
- As an alternative to Rule 2 Section 3 of the University’s Rules Relating to Awards, applicants for admission to candidature in the Graduate Certificate in International Tourism and Hotel Management may be selected where they can demonstrate academic or professional standing considered by the School Board to be equivalent to the requirements of Rule 2 Section 3 of the University’s Rules Relating to Awards.
Credit for prior learning
- Candidates may be granted advanced standing in accordance with Rule 2 Section 4 of the University’s Rules Relating to Awards.
- Work experience will not be accepted as a basis for advanced standing. Candidates who are of the opinion that their level of knowledge is already equal to that required to successfully complete a unit listed in the Schedule may apply to the Board of Studies to be permitted to undertake a challenge examination in that unit. Advanced standing will be granted for a unit if a result of 60% or greater is achieved in a challenge examination. A challenge examination for a unit cannot be undertaken again if the candidate is unsuccessful at the first attempt. Advanced standing for up to four (4) units may be granted under this Rule.
- Notwithstanding the above, candidates will not be granted advanced standing for MNG03236 Tourism and Hotel Professional Development, MNG03237 Tourism and Hotel Internship or MNG03400 Tourism Research Proposal.
Course requirements
To be eligible for the award of Graduate Certificate in International Tourism and Hotel Management a candidate shall successfully complete four (4) units from Part A of the Schedule of Units attached.
