Unit description

Assists students to critically reflect on the relationship between their academic studies and the workplace environment, by providing a minimum 300 hours of practical workplace experience over 10 weeks within the tourism and hospitality sectors. This double-weighted unit also enables students to gain an understanding of the nature and requirements of the business environment.

Unit content

Students have the opportunity to complete an internship over one of the following areas by undertaking: productive work at an operational level with an appropriate tourism, hospitality or sport tourism related organisation, in Australia or overseas OR a research project for a tourism related business or the hotel sector.

Major project alternatives are approved on an individual basis. A written request with details of the project must be submitted to the Unit Assessor for approval.

Students are responsible for finding their own internship placement. On finding a position, students must seek approval from the Unit Assessor as to its eligibility for Internship, prior to commencing their Internship. Under certain circumstances the Unit Assessor may direct a student to undertake a research project.
