Overview

By undertaking an online Master of Project Management with Southern Cross University, you'll develop the practical skills and knowledge you need to become a capable leader in an area of tremendous job growth.

The course is aligned with the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) benchmarking tool – Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) and endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management. Choose a range of elective units relevant to healthcare, engineering, IT, accounting and business, and design your own study plan to focus on one particular sector or make your mark in an emerging field.

To gain your qualification, you need to study all core units, four electives of your choice, and complete an industry research project to consolidate your project management skills.

Course Learning Outcome

Demonstrate cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories from different bodies of knowledge or practice as it applied to the discipline of project management

Apply knowledge and skills pertaining to project management with initiative and creativity with new challenges or in new situations

Demonstrate highly developed judgement and use of ethical framework(s) when planning, managing and undertaking projects in scholarly, research, social and professional forums

Apply sustainability principles to project management research and professional situations

Demonstrate an advanced, integrated understanding of project management principles and methods, with the ability to conceptualize and apply these principles and methods in professional contexts

Our Master of Project Management consists of compulsory units and elective units. Elect specialisations based on your interests, anchor yourself in one area or craft your own niche to suit emerging industries. You can select from:

Career Outcomes

This course is endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM). Students who have completed an AIPM-endorsed course are eligible to apply for a certificate as a Certified Practicing Project Practitioner (CPPP) under AIPM's RegPM program. To qualify for CPPP, students must apply for Associate Membership with a copy of their qualification.

Entry requirements

Credit for prior learning

  1. Candidates who have completed an AQF level 9 qualification in a related field of business and management (such as a Masters of Business Administration), and who have completed a specified unit on Project Management, may be granted one (1) unit of advanced standing for the unit  Project Management Principles.
  2. Candidates who have completed an AQF level 9 qualification in a related field of business and management, may be granted three (3) units of advanced standing from Part B of the schedule, and one (1) core unit.

Course requirements

To be eligible to receive the Master of Project Management students must complete the equivalent of 12 units (144 credit points) comprising:

  • 9 core units (108 credit points), and
  • 3 equivalent elective units (36 credit points).

Exit Awards

Students may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Diploma of Project Management after completing the equivalent of 8 units (96 credit points), comprising 6 core units and 2 elective units.
 
Students may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Certificate of Project Management after completing the equivalent of 4 units (48 credit points), comprising 3 core units and 1 elective unit.
