Overview
This full-fee paying degree, offered at The Hotel School Sydney, focuses on hotel operational skills, management practices in the hospitality industry and the skills needed for employment in a dynamic and competitive global business environment. The Hotel School Sydney is a partnership between Southern Cross University and Mulpha Australia, whose property portfolio includes the InterContinental Sydney, Hayman Island, InterContinental, Sanctuary Cove Resort, Salzburg Apartments, Marritz Alpine, and, Bimbadgen Estate.
The Hotel School Sydney is positioned in the heart of the Central Business District, with Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and Royal Botanic Gardens on its doorstep. It is also in close proximity to a range of hotels.
All applicants for The Hotel School Sydney are selected on their individual merit. While recent academic performance or professional experience is used as an indicator of ability to undertake studies at a tertiary level, applicants will also be invited to an interview as part of the final application process.

A paid professional hospitality placement is a key feature of the course and counts as four core units of the degree. This may be completed in Australia or overseas. All students establish valuable industry experience, confidence and networks. The professional experience enables students to continue employment during their study at The Hotel School Sydney.
Studies include key operational subjects such as food and beverage, accommodation operations, and introduction to professional practice, together with introductory management subjects including finance, marketing and hospitality management. Students also develop advanced analytical, strategic, and management skills.

Entry requirements
Credit for prior learning
- Candidates, who have successfully completed the requirements of the Diploma in Hotel Management at this University, or equivalent, may be granted advanced standing for up to eight (8) units towards the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management.
- Candidates, who have successfully completed the requirements of the Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management at this University, may be granted advanced standing for up to sixteen (16) units towards the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management.

The School Board may grant advanced standing of up to sixteen (16) units, provided that:
- a maximum of four (4) units are counted towards Intern Study;
- a maximum of twelve (12) units are counted towards units other than Intern Study;
- Academic Board is notified of all instances where advanced standing in excess of twelve (12) units is granted.

Advanced Standing of up to eight (8) units may be granted to candidates who have completed another undergraduate award of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. In addition, a candidate may apply to the Head of School to substitute other units for those previously completed. Unit substitution does not reduce the number of units required to complete the course. Advanced Standing in excess of eight (8) units may be granted by the Head of School in exceptional circumstances.
Course requirements

To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management degree a candidate shall successfully complete not less than twenty-four (24) units comprising:
- all units listed in Part A of the Schedule attached to these Rules; and
- three (3) units from Part B of the Schedule attached to these Rules; or
- three (3) other units acceptable to the Course coordinator.
- To be eligible for the award of Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management degree a candidate shall successfully complete no less than sixteen (16) units from Part A of the Schedule attached to these Rules.
- To be eligible for the award of the Diploma in Hotel Management a candidate shall successfully complete no less than eight (8) units from Part A of the Schedule attached to these Rules.
