Overview

The Bachelor of Business in Convention and Event Management from Southern Cross Unviersity positions graduates at the centre of the fast-growing events industry. Students acquire the skills and knowledge required to pursue a career in the management, planning and marketing of corporate events, conventions and meetings, festivals and special events. 
 
A compulsory six-month internship is a key feature of this course and counts as four compulsory units of the degree. During this internship, students establish valuable industry experience, and develop their professional confidence and networks. 
 
This course offers an optional international exchange program for second-year students to study overseas.

An internship program, which counts as four core units of the degree, provides students with a block of practical workplace experience during their final study session in a hospitality, event or tourism organisation in Australia or overseas. 

While the course has no majors, students study areas including festival and special events planning; event operations management; facility and risk management; production planning and management; and convention and exhibition planning. The course has a strong focus on the convention, conferencing and event industries.

Course requirements

  1. To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Business in Convention and Event Management, a candidate shall successfully complete twenty-four (24) units (288 credit points) comprising:
    1. all units listed in Part A (First year core units);
    2. all units listed in Part B (Second and Third year core units); and
    3. eight (8) units from Part C; or
    4. six (6) units from Part C and two (2) elective units from the University-wide offerings.
  2. To be eligible for the award of Associate Degree of Business in Convention and Event Management a candidate shall successfully complete sixteen (16) units (192 credit points) comprising:
    1. all units listed in Part A; and
    2. eight (8) units from either Part B and/or Part C.
  3. A candidate who, while enrolled in the Bachelor of Business in Convention and Event Management, may elect to be awarded the Associate Degree of Business in Convention and Event Management following withdrawal from the Bachelor Degree.

Note 1:

Internship A and Internship B are both double-weighted units that are usually completed over a 14-week (450 hours) period after the completion of a minimum of 16 units including the Professional Development for the Workplace unit (MNG10476). All internship placements must be approved by the Work Integrated Learning Coordinator, prior to commencement.

Note 2:

These units allow students to undertake an international exchange usually in their 2nd year of study. Interested students must seek advice on how exchange units may correspond to their course structure before applying through the International Office.
