Overview

By undertaking an online Master of Project Management with Southern Cross University, you'll develop the practical skills and knowledge you need to become a capable leader in an area of tremendous job growth.

The course is aligned with the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) benchmarking tool – Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) and endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management. Choose a range of elective units relevant to healthcare, engineering, IT, accounting and business, and design your own study plan to focus on one particular sector or make your mark in an emerging field.

To gain your qualification, you need to study all core units, four electives of your choice, and complete an industry research project to consolidate your project management skills.

Course Learning Outcome

GA1: Intellectual rigour

Demonstrate a highly advanced, integrated understanding of project management theories, concepts, principles and methods, with the ability to conceptualise, customise and apply these principles and methods in professional contexts.

Locate, evaluate, manage and utilise information in order to create and communicate new knowledge and specialised methods in the field of project management.

Communicate arguments, theory, complex knowledge and ideas in relation to the field of project management to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

GA7: Cultural competence

Demonstrate an understanding of Indigenous Australian contemporary realities and protocols, specifically as they apply to project management in practice (such as in the mining, health, construction and social services sectors).

Our Master of Project Management consists of compulsory units and elective units. Elect specialisations based on your interests; anchor yourself in one area or craft your own niche to suit emerging industries. You can select from:

Career Outcomes

This course is endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM). Students who have completed an AIPM-endorsed course are eligible to apply for a certificate as a Certified Practising Project Practitioner (CPPP) under AIPM's RegPM program.

Course requirements

To be eligible to receive the Master of Project Management students must complete the equivalent of 12 units (144 credit points) comprising:

  • 9 core units (108 credit points), and
  • 3 equivalent elective units (36 credit points).

Exit Awards

Students may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Diploma of Project Management after completing the equivalent of 8 units (96 credit points), comprising 7 core units and 1 elective unit.
 
Students may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Certificate of Project Management after completing the equivalent of 4 units (48 credit points), comprising 4 core units.

Entry requirements

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this course are as follows
