Overview

The Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge generates greater understanding of Indigenous world views, by exploring histories, knowledge systems, determinants of health and wellbeing and ways of living, in a culturally diverse and supportive environment.

Students build theoretical and practical capability in areas including cultural protocols and Indigenous ways of knowing and being. They learn to engage with communities and work towards better environmental, social and economic outcomes.

Students tailor their studies with the choice of a major in either community and land management or in Aboriginal health care and through a selection of elective units.

Eligible graduates of the Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge can apply to undertake the one-year Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge with Honours, as a pathway to the Doctor of Indigenous Philosophies or to other postgraduate programs in the University.

Course requirements

  1. To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge, a candidate shall successfully complete the equivalent of twenty-four (24) units comprising:
    1. All eight (8) units listed in Part A of the Schedule of Units; and
    2. One (1) eight (8) unit Major, selected from Part B of the Schedule of Units; and
    3. Eight (8) elective units, selected from Part C of the Schedule of Units;
  2. A candidate, who while enrolled in the Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge, has successfully completed the equivalent of sixteen (16) units, may elect to be awarded the Associate Degree of Indigenous Knowledge following withdrawal from the Bachelor degree.
  3. A candidate, who while enrolled in the Bachelor of Indigenous Knowledge, has successfully completed the equivalent of eight (8) units, may elect to be awarded the Diploma of Indigenous Knowledge following withdrawal from the Bachelor degree. 

Entry requirements

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this course are as follows
