Overview

The Bachelor of Business in Convention and Event Management positions graduates at the centre of the fast growing events industry. Students acquire the skills and knowledge required to pursue a career in the management, planning and marketing of corporate events, conventions and meetings, festivals and special events.

This course offers an optional international exchange program for second year students to study in the United States, Canada, England, Austria, the Netherlands or Hong Kong.

An internship program, which counts as four units of the degree, provides students in their final study session with a block of practical workplace experience in a hospitality, event or tourism organisation in Australia or overseas. Students also have the option to undertake a research-based project.

While there are no majors in this course, it offers industry-specific topics developed in consultation with industry and academic leaders in their field. These include theming and staging; events management; hazard, facility and risk management; project planning and management; and conventions, meetings and exhibition management.

Course requirements

  1. To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Business in Convention and Event Management, a candidate shall successfully complete twenty-four (24) units comprising:
    1. all units listed in Part A of the Schedule of Units attached to these Rules (First year core units);
    2. all units listed in Part B of the Schedule of Units attached to these Rules (Second and Third year core units); and
    3. Eight (8) units from Part C of the Schedule of Units attached to these Rules; or
    4. Six (6) units from Part C of the Schedule of Units attached to these Rules and two (2) elective units from the University-wide offerings.

Note 1:

Intern Study MKT01221-4 is usually completed over a 14-week (450 hours) period after the completion of a minimum of 19 units. All internship placements must be approved by the Work Integrated Learning Coordinator, prior to commencement.

Note 2:

These units allow students to undertake an international exchange usually in Session 2 of the 2nd year of study. Students should contact the International Office for international exchange advice, approval and Credit Transfer Agreement form.
