Overview
The Bachelor of Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing prepares students to work as Aboriginal health practitioners in diverse Aboriginal health and counselling contexts.
The course is specifically designed to build students’ theoretical and practical capacity in discipline areas relevant to Aboriginal health practitioners. An inter-disciplinary focus provides students with skills and practices relevant to a variety of professional contexts where cultural competence is required to service individuals, families and community groups.

Students will undertake supervised on-the-job training as part of the course to gain professional experience. Placements can take place in a range of health facilities and clinics, and particularly those which provide services to Indigenous Australians.
Majors include:
- Aboriginal Health Care
The course can be studied without a major and includes a selection of units in areas that are relevant to Indigenous health and wellbeing.
Online students attend compulsory residential workshops at Lismore campus for some units.

Career Outcomes
This course is accredited with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) for the Narrative Counselling major. The University is seeking professional accreditation from the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Association (NATSIHWA) and the Australian Indigenous Psychologists Association (AIPA).

Course requirements

To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing a candidate shall successfully complete not less than twenty-four (24) units (288 credit points) comprising:
- all units in Part A; and
- either one (1) Part B Major, or one (1) University-wide Major

To be eligible for the award of Associate Degree of Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing a candidate shall successfully complete not less than sixteen (16) units (192 credit points) comprising:
- all units in Part A; or
- any twelve (12) units in Part A and either: any four (4) units in a Part B Major, or any four (4) units in a University-wide Major
- A candidate who, while enrolled for the Bachelor of Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing, has completed the requirements for the Associate Degree of Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing may elect to be awarded the Associate Degree of Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing following withdrawal from the Bachelor degree.

To be eligible for the award of Diploma of Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing a candidate shall successfully complete not less than eight (8) units (96 credit points) comprising:
- any eight (8) units in Part A; or
- any six (6) units in Part A and either: any two (2) units in a Part B Major, or any two (2) units in a University-wide Major
- A candidate who, while enrolled in the Bachelor or Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing, has completed the requirements for the Diploma of Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing may elect to be awarded the Diploma of Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing following withdrawal from candidature for the Bachelor degree.
