ENG00410 - Introduction to Creative Writing

Unit aim

Provides students with foundational knowledges in active reading and writing practices and prepares them for a writing life based on creativity, critical interpretation and writing skills. Students will begin a portfolio of creative work and engage in the giving and receiving of critical feedback integral to their writing practice.

Unit content

Module 1: What is creative-writing practice? How readers and writers respond to texts

Module 2: Narrative structure I: establishing a voice and point of view

Module 3: Narrative structure II: creating a plot

Module 4: Building characters

Module 5: Creating a sense of place and setting

Module 6: Writing and rewriting

Learning outcomes
