Unit aim

Develop skills in and understanding of publishing and editing creative work, freelancing, marketing, reviewing and writing groups / communities of practice. Provides students with valuable industry-based knowledge and practical advice for establishing or continuing their careers as writers.

Unit content

1. Working as a writer (what kind of labour is entailed in literary production)

2. Press releases, profiles and bios: freelancing and marketing

3. Reviewing

4. The publishing industry

5. Communities of practice (writing groups etc.)

6. Living as a writer (prizes, grants, competitions, residencies)
