Unit aim

Focuses on students developing links between research, theory, and practice in early childhood education specifically for transition of preschool aged children to school (5-8 years). Students will build on the development of personal and professional attributes, and abilities for effective interactions with all children and adults in the lives of those children. This professional experience involves 10 days of placement in settings catering for children five to eight years and their families.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 demonstrate ethical and professional conduct in the professional experience setting with commitment to and engagement with the early childhood community
2 create, develop, implement and document early childhood educational programs for children with sound links to understandings of children’s learning, child development, theories of learning, understandings of diverse families and communities and research
3 demonstrate understanding of professional skills to support children’s pro-social development and competencies
4 create, design and assess flexible, healthy, sustainable environments that support children’s learning

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
