Unit aim

Provides an opportunity to choose a pathway into the profession of teaching by: (i) the study of contemporary research and practice in the context of teaching selected and (ii) the satisfactory completion of the practicum including planning and observation days and a block period.

1 identify a pathway that they are most likely to follow into the profession as they transition from undergraduate to teacher
2 consider the essential components of curriculum relating specifically to their chosen pathway that support the engagement and active participation of learners
3 plan, implement and evaluate a teaching program, complemented by a daybook, for the duration of their professional experience
4 show evidence of critical reflection on their pedagogy during their in-school teaching experience
5 develop their professional knowledge and practice through theory and informed practice in the context of their selected pathway
6 expand on their professional portfolio to include key information about the pathway they have selected including support services and contacts within this area and; commit to their ongoing professional learning through the consideration of the opportunities that exist for them as graduates and in consideration of the requirements of accreditation bodies
7 demonstrate their ethical understanding of issues related to their transition from pre- to in-service teacher in their chosen context and; engage in professional dialogue with other professionals about the issues, challenges and possibilities of teaching within a given context.
