Unit aim
Provides the foundation for developing competence in students' teaching skills and strategies by: (i) the study of contemporary theory and practice about effective classroom practice and (ii) the satisfactory completion of a 3-week block-practicum.
Unit content
1. Understanding the context of a primary school
2. Establishing a presence: clarity of communication
3. Planning for effective teaching and learning (OGER Framework)
4. Assessing for effective teaching and learning
5. Managing the learning environment (includes Child Protection)
6. Orientation: engaging learners
7. Guided discovery: explicit teaching
8. Exploration: child focused practice
9. Reflection: reviewing the learning experience
10. Preparing for practicum
Learning outcomes
