Unit aim

Enables participants to examine and evaluate their own teaching in a higher education context. Participants use reflective processes and collegial peer review to document their approaches to teaching and influences on student learning. Study in this unit situates teaching within the broader experience of academic practice and commences the development of a professional portfolio.

Unit content

  1. Examining key concepts that frame study about teaching and learning in higher education
  2. Exploring your approaches to teaching and adopting a learning focus to your teaching
  3. Planning a teaching event using principles of alignment
  4. Planning assessment for learning at the unit level
  5. Participating in and reflecting upon peer review as a form of feedback on teaching
  6. Engaging with the complexity of contemporary higher education academic practice
