Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
explain dominant discourses and constructions of health and illness, including mental distress, acknowledging the diverse lived experiences of people who live with mental distress and their families and friends
explain the mental health service system and identify how legislation and policy influence the theoretical frameworks and practices related to mental health practice
critically analyse the potential and scope of social work practice in building resilience and facilitating recovery with respect to health and wellbeing across the lifespan particularly with reference to mental health
demonstrate social work practice skills in assessing and working with people with mental health needs and their partners, family members and friends.
