Unit aim

Introduces students to the mapping techniques that are essential to make sound decisions in resource management. Techniques used to collect data include field surveys (including work, health and safety and risk assessment), aerial photograph interpretation and global positioning systems (GPS). Interpretation of information represented in maps is used as a source of information. Organising data in a spreadsheet and geographic information system (GIS) is introduced. Representation of data in graphs and maps is assessed.
