Unit aim
Introduces students to foundational knowledge of physical, cognitive, and communication development in typically-developing Australian-English speaking children. The unit will further introduce students to the notion of communication development as part of healthy aging. The unit explores principles and practices for conducting and recording observations of people and environments and also the elicitation and transcription of speech/language samples as relevant for both children and adult interactions.
Unit content
This unit covers content in three main areas:
- Communication development from childhood through to healthy aging
- Observation in speech pathology
- Speech/language sampling and analysis in speech pathology.
