Unit aim

Prepares students for speech pathology practice in working with adult and child clients with acquired and/or  developmental speech disorders, particularly, motor speech disorders.  Online lectures, in class tutorials and recommended readings enable students to increase and apply knowledge and skills and consider the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health and Evidence-based practice (EBP), to demonstrate the ability to assess, diagnose and treat neurogenic speech disorders in adults and children.

Unit content

The unit will be divided into two core modules:

  1. Assessment and intervention for adults with motor speech disorders, including dyspraxia and dysarthria.
  2. Assessment and intervention for children with motor speech disorders, including childhood apraxia of speech and dysarthria.
