Introduces students to the nature of science through four core scientific disciplines: chemistry, physics, biology and geology. Students analyse and in some instances solve problems in real-world contexts involving scientific observation, measurement and experimentation.
Topic 1: The nature of science and inquiry:
Topic 2: Physics:
- Forces and motion
- Work, energy and power

- Atomic Structure
- Elements and molecules
- Equations and reactions
Topic 4 : Biology:
Topic 5: Geology:
- Land formation
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
|On completion of this unit, students should be able to:||GA1||GA2||GA3||GA4||GA5||GA6||GA7|
|1||communicate an understanding of the nature of science.|
|2||demonstrate an understanding of key concepts across four broad scientific disciplines.|
|3||apply analytical and problem solving skills in defined scientific contexts.|
