Unit aim

Introduces four core areas of psychological science: Social Psychology; Motivation and Emotion; Consciousness; and Personality. The unit has a focus on the role of the social milieu in the determination of behaviour, and complements Introduction to Psychology I, which is focussed on the regulation of individual behaviour.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 develop and communicate a written plan to critically address a topic in a core area of psychology
2 develop skills to write effectively in a scientific style appropriate for psychology
3 apply critical judgement, reasoning and evidence to the understanding of a core topic covered in the unit
4 demonstrate an understanding of the major themes and perspectives of psychology.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
