Unit aim

Provides an overview of settlement patterns and associated theory as well as an introduction to urban design methodologies in relation to current planning practices. The unit examines past and present settlements and their characteristics in the context of planning theory and looks at design elements, site analysis, urban form, public amenity and space and the impact of planning on built form and the public domain.
