Presents advanced pharmacology and its relationship to podiatric disorders. It also provides a platform for students to learn about the requirements to become an endorsed prescriber with the Podiatry Board of Australia, using case based learning

Topic 2: Advanced pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Topic 4: Managing podiatric infections

  • Clinical scenarios

Topic 5: Medical management of adverse drug effects and interactions

  • Appropriate emergency protocols in the podiatry clinic

Topic 6: Medico-legal and regulatory requirements of podiatric prescribing

1 apply their knowledge of pain management and management of infection in advanced podiatric practice
2 evaluate and interpret indications and contra-indications for individual drugs and drug classes available to podiatrists, management protocols for safe use and dealing with complications
3 identify and evaluate the issues surrounding prescribing drugs, awareness of drug prescription protocols, knowledge of the restricted schedule drug formularies and Podiatry Board of Australia’s requirements for endorsement
4 apply their knowledge of adverse drug reactions, pharmacological principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, classification of drugs and pharmacological principles of drugs and effects as it relates to the drug formulary available to Australian podiatrists
5 devise management plans that appropriately communicate their knowledge of the Podiatry Board of Australia's requirements for registration as an endorsed prescriber
