Pre-requisites
Unit aim
Introduces students to diabetes management strategies including: different technologies to monitor blood glucose levels; glucose-lowering medicines and injection technique; nutrition therapy; physical activity guidelines; and approaches to psychosocial assessment. Comprehensive person-centred assessment and care planning methods are explored. The interdisciplinary nature of diabetes education and management is examined.

The unit learning outcomes address elements from Domain 1 (Clinical Practice), 3 (Research and Quality Improvement) and 5 (Leadership and Advocacy) of the National Competency Standards for Credentialled Diabetes Educators.
