Unit description

Deepens the skills of osteopathic diagnosis and treatment to a clinical practice level, and develops reflective practice on ethical and patient-centred problem solving in clinical practice. Students are introduced to high velocity technique, its evidence base and application in conditions of the lumbar spine, pelvis and lower limbs.

Unit content

  1. Informed consent, indications, contraindications and risk factors for  high velocity technique
  2. Negotiate safe and appropriate management plans in relation to patient’s health status
  3. Osteopathic assessment and high velocity technique of lumbar spine
  4. Osteopathic assessment and high velocity technique of hip
  5. Osteopathic assessment and high velocity technique of pelvic girdle and sacroiliac joint
  6. Osteopathic assessment and high velocity technique lower limb (knee, ankle, foot)

appraise the evidence of high velocity manipulative techniques in the lumbar spine, pelvis and lower limbs

demonstrate the safe and effective use of high velocity manipulative techniques, including practitioner self-care
