Unit aim
Advances the clinical skills of integrative osteopathic diagnosis and treatment, consolidates the personal and professional application of health principles, develops skills for working collaboratively and further develops and applies critical appraisal skills to osteopathic health practice. Students develop skills in high velocity manipulative techniques in the thoracic and cervical spine and upper limb.
Unit content
- Practitioner development - problem solving with ethical principles, interprofessional collaboration
- Osteopathic diagnosis - integration of screening procedures and spinal biomechanical findings including physical and holistic findings using the neuromusculoskeletal model
- Osteopathic technique - high velocity technique - introduction to thoracic and cervical spine/upper limb/shoulder - integrated direct and indirect approach
- Introduction to critical appraisal
- Rehabilitation strategies for chronic pain presentations – clinical guidelines
