Unit aim
Provides students with a deepening understanding of evidence-based diagnosis and treatment in primary care medicine, with particular concentration on the modules of gastrointestinal, genitourinary systems and in the obstetrics domain while integrating the osteopathic principles and practices into patient presentations in these systems. An additional aim is to establish the business skills necessary for practice in the community.
Unit content
- Principles of reproductive medicine and obstetrics, review of pathology, advanced evidence-based diagnosis and management of the pregnant patient
- Principles of gastroenterology and genitourinary medicine, review of pathology, advanced evidence-based diagnosis and management
- Principles of health practice, business models and ethics, taxation and insurance responsibilities
- Case study development, including case history interview, integrating basic and clinical sciences, nutritional and lifestyle considerations, diagnostic work up and development of an evidence-based management plan
