Unit aim

Provides students with a deepening understanding of the diagnostic theory and methods in primary care medicine, with particular concentration on the modules of immunology, cardiology, respiratory and paediatrics. This unit also aims to integrate the osteopathic principles and practices into knowledge of public health and patient problems in these systems.

1 evaluate signs and symptoms of disease in patient presentations in the immune, cardiology and respiratory systems, and the paediatric domain
2 develop working diagnoses in these systems based on findings from physical examination, laboratory and imaging technologies
3 critically explore the integration of the osteopathic concept of health and disease with the diagnostic process
4 construct rational management of patient cases based on an integrated diagnostic process
5 defend working diagnoses and treatment plans using rational clinical reasoning and problem solving skills
6 examine the principles of public and social health including clinical epidemiology,
7 appraise the place of osteopathic medicine within these spheres.
