Unit description

This unit extends student understanding of mental health and wellbeing by examining the relationship between mental health and occupational performance. Students will develop knowledge and skills in client-centred practice to underpin their approaches to occupational therapy across a range of practice contexts.

  1. Contemporary occupational therapy within mental health and addictions service provision
  2. Occupational assessment and goal setting
  3. Occupational and functional assessments in mental health practice
  4. Use of groups within mental health occupational therapy practice
  5. Contemporary occupational therapy practice in the clinical setting
  6. Evaluation of interventions and groups in mental health

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

examine the relationship between mental health and occupational performance

apply theoretical perspectives and best practice models to plan and implement occupational therapy service delivery in various mental health practice settings

apply client-centred practice principles to occupational therapy practice in mental health

collaborate with consumers to inform occupational therapy service delivery
