Unit aim
Introduces students to the profession of occupational therapy, including: values and beliefs, philosophical bases, foundational concepts, models and scope of current occupational therapy practice. Professional experience learning will focus on the development of professional behaviours, communication, documentation skills and reflective practice.

- Evolution of the profession in Australia and internationally
- Frameworks and scope of occupational therapy practice
- The World Health Organization and other perspectives on health, well being and disease
- Humans as occupational beings
- Relationship between occupations and health
- Key constructs of occupational therapy models of practice
- Professional behaviours which are consistent with the conduct standards of Occupational Therapy
- Professional information gathering, communication and documentation skills
- Preparing for success in professional practice and fieldwork learning
- Research, written expression, reflection and referencing in scholarly written work
