Unit aim

Examines the fundamentals of nutrition, including nutritional biochemistry and pharmacology, and applies this knowledge to nutritional therapeutics and dietary planning in preparation for clinical application.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 illustrate relationships between food, nutrients and the environment
2 correlate nutritional therapeutics with carbohydrate, protein and lipid biochemical pathways
3 recognise components of the diet and principles of dietary planning for healthy eating
4 apply knowledge of contemporary issues in nutrition to healthy eating

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
