UG Coursework Unit
Students develop skills in physical, psycho-social and cognitive nursing assessment and beginning-level nursing interventions inclusive of medication administration and management. Practice in nursing laboratory sessions and simulated rehearsal prepares students to conduct holistic-focussed health assessment across the lifespan. As part of this unit students will complete 120 hours of professional placement.
- Care planning and documentation
- Psychosocial assessment (including mental health component)
Physical assessment (across all ages):
- Integumentary assessment and wound care
- Cardiac assessment and vital sign assessment (including Blood Glucose Levels)
- Respiratory assessment, oxygen therapy, peak flow and administration of inhaled medications
- Nervous system and sensory (ears, eyes and nose)
- Cognitive assessment
- Bowel care and elimination, specimen collection, managing urinary catheter
- Patient safety
- National inpatient medication record system
- Quality use of medicines - Principles of drug administration
- Numeracy and drug calculations
- Drug administration - non parenteral
- Drug administration - parenteral and insulin administration
- Preparation for PEP2
