Unit aim

Builds on the skills and knowledge developed in the unit Sound Production I with a focus on developing a thorough understanding of theoretical concepts related to live sound recording and the fundamentals of acoustics and sound spatialisation. This unit will develop the student's skills in the technical operation of equipment utilised in live music events including concerts, recording studios, video broadcasts and radio studio environments.

  • Sound theory
  • Production planning
  • Sound design
  • Analog and digital technologies used in live sound production
  • Concert pre-production
  • Spectral sound analysis
  • Contemporary live sound practices used in the music industry
  • Variable gain amplifiers and time modifiers
  • Sound reproduction for other media (social media, television, film, multimedia installation)
  • Emerging technologies, audio monitoring, wireless controllers, digital protocols
