Unit aim

Strengthens intermediate level musicianship skills and knowledge specifically in relation to theory, aural, keyboard and digital musicianship skills (including notation software and digital audio workstation software). This unit extends the theoretical concepts presented in Musicianship III, focusing on advanced harmonic relationships, groove construction, sectional writing and scale/harmony application, and applies these concepts to develop aural perception, composition, arranging and performance.

1 Transcribe songs from contemporary repertoire into professional music charts
2 Recognise and create popular instrumental and vocal timbres and effects
3 Apply intermediate level aural skills in rhythmic, melodic and harmonic perception to the understanding, interpretation and performance of contemporary music repertoire and practice.
4 Recognise, analyse and create intermediate level ensemble 'grooves' and contemporary rhythmic techniques
5 Apply chord construction, voicing and voice leading principles to compose two, three and four sectional harmonisations
6 Recognise, perform and apply advanced scales and modes for improvisation
