Unit aim
Introduces students to foundational level skills and knowledge in relation to collaborative music making practices, songwriting, composition, arrangement and music performance and presentation. Students will rehearse and perform with small and large ensembles and participate in workshops and lectures.
Unit content
- WHS issues in relation to rehearsal and live performance
- Learning music: Career pathways, portfolio careers, self-skilling, lifelong learning
- Learning music: Introduction to cognitive and physiological elements, deliberate practice, critiquing and effective journaling
- Collaborative music making models: roles, rules, 'hard' and 'soft' skills
- Introductory technique on an instrument or in singing in ensemble setting
- Ensemble rehearsal and performance practices in both large ensembles (choir or guitar ensemble) and small ensemble
