Unit aim

This unit aims to develop an understanding about the concepts and theories of organisational behaviour at the individual, group and organisational level. Providing insight into the relationship between organisational behaviour and organisational outcomes, as well as the role of HR in supporting positive outcomes.

  1. What is organisational behaviour?
  2. Power and influence: the impact of management decision making (politics) and the role of HR
  3. Examining the role of leadership in effective decision making
  4. Examining conflict and negotiation in organisations and the role of HR
  5. Implementing organisational change and innovation
  6. Understanding the impact of individual attributes on job performance
  7. Understanding the impact of social learning, reinforcement and self-management on outcomes
  8. Understanding the impact of goal setting and flexible work arrangements on outcomes
  9. Understanding the impact of group dynamics on outcomes
  10. Implications for HR practice

1 demonstrate an understanding about the relationships between organisation, management, employees and HR; especially with regards to the lack of evidence based HR
2 identify the selected individual, group and organisational factors affecting organisational performance and the role of HR. Discuss the theory behind power and influence, negotiation and mediation, and the overall impact upon organisational politics and the role of HR
3 demonstrate an understanding about the factors that affect change management, and conflict management and the role of HR
4 analyse the principles and concepts of organisational behaviour and the role of the human resource manager in fostering positive organisational behaviour.
