Unit aim
Aims to develop an understanding of concepts, theory and worldview of culture. This is achieved by focusing specifically on developing students' understanding of group, interpersonal, national, and international culture. This unit also examines the role of culture during organisational change.
Unit content
Topic 1: Cultural intelligence/literacy defining culture and implications for implementing change. LOBAL mindset (GLOBAL competencies and cultural intelligence and cultural literacy).
Topic 2: The different theoretical frameworks for examining the issue of culture
Topic 3: International mobility (GLOBE studies), globalisation convergence/divergence
Topic 4: Employability and the global careers and implications for implementing change
Topic 5: Public private sector, non profit, SME, cultural frames, outsourcing. Hofstede's work on organisational groupings using SIT (social identity theory) and implications for OB within an organisation to explain Hofstede's work.
Topic 6: Using culture as source of competitive advantage
Topic 7: Embeddedness (predictor of commitment) and implications for implementing change
Topic 8: Organisational learning - learning theory related to culture of organisational development, Senge (single, double loop learning)/ Propensity to be innovative importance of innovative behaviour.
Topic 9: Problem based learning around - expatriates, embeddedness and implications for implementing change. Social Learning Theory (Bandura)
Topic 10: Diversity management and implications for implementing change
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit.
