Unit aim

Examines and evaluates the nature of organised special events and their impacts on tourism and host communities. It will evaluate complex event governance and operational considerations, and the strategies necessary to ensure sustainable events.

Unit content

Topic 1: Definitions, categories and attributes of special events

Topic 2: Economic and political exploitation of events 

Topic 3: Social, cultural and environmental impacts

Topic 4: Event governance, organisational structures, and stakeholders

Topic 5: Grants and governmental support 

Topic 6: Sponsorship, evaluation, and Return on Investment (ROI)
