Unit aim

Provides an overview of the convention, meeting and exhibition industry. It examines the physical requirements, marketing, management and operation of convention and exhibition facilities. Emphasis is also placed on the planning and management of conventions and meetings. An important aim of this unit is for students to develop a bid proposal for a hypothetical conference and trade show.

1 comprehend and evaluate the significance of the business events industry as part of the overall tourism product and to identify the role of business events in the tourism system both nationally and internationally

3 define and explore the role of the specialist supplier organisations in the conducting of conventions, meetings and exhibitions
4 apply the principles of management to business events and identify and explore key factors and criteria to be considered in the planning, organising, staging and management of successful business events
5 plan and develop a bid proposal to host a conference incorporating the key success factors and criteria identified in learning outcome 2
6 demonstrate ability to present ideas and co-operate in a team work environment.
