Unit description

Consolidates learning and applies accumulated theoretical knowledge and skills to a selected area of midwifery practice. The unit provides an opportunity to enhance and deepen the student's capacity to undertake the role of the professional midwife within a rural/remote, metropolitan or international setting, taking into consideration the geo-socio-political and regulatory context.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

critically apply the geo-socio-political and regulatory context to an area of midwifery practice

critically review and appraise current evidence-informed maternity practices and how this impacts upon quality care provision and the evidence that informs clinical decision-making within midwifery

critically explore a qualitative data collection and analysis method

assess, plan and implement safe midwifery care of women within their childbearing episode
