Unit aim

Develops knowledge and capabilities in evidenced based psychotherapeutic practices including the application of focused psychological strategies for people experiencing high prevalence mental health problems. Applies contemporary cognitive behavioural theory in case formulation of common mental health problems and plan care accordingly. Utilises and recommend mindfulness practices appropriately to enhance health and wellbeing.

  • The application of focused psychological strategies for high prevalence mental health problems.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy theory and formulation.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy theory.
  • Mindfulness based interventions.
  • Using mindful interventions to promote wellbeing.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 critically describes the underpinning assumptions, theory and practices of cognitive behaviour therapy.
2 apply focused psychological strategies in the treatment of people with high prevalence mental health problems.
3 critically appraise the theoretical frameworks that underpin mindfulness based interventions
4 generate a programme of mindfulness based interventions in response to consumer’s needs

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
