## Unit aim

Mathematical ideas expands a student's knowledge of current mathematical knowledge as well the historical development of selected mathematical ideas. Topics include set and number theory, real and complex number systems, geometry, mathematical systems, systems of linear equations, counting techniques.

## Unit content

Topic 1: Set Theory
Topic 2: Boolean algebra and logic – Truth tables, Equivalent statements
Topic 3: Boolean algebra and logic – Switching Circuits, Propositional Calculus, Validity of an Argument
Topic 4: Number theory
Topic 5: Linear inequalities, Non-linear Functions and Graphs and Systems of Linear Equations
Topic 6: Complex Numbers
Topic 7: Introduction to Differentiation and Integration
Topic 8: Statistics
Topic 9: Trigonometry
Topic 10: Advanced Geometry – Non-Euclidean geometries
