Unit aim

Introduces students to statistical concepts and techniques relevant to their degree. Statistical tools to model and analyse real-world situations and data are developed, enabling students to enhance their decision-making skills. The interpretation and communication of the results obtained is emphasised. Throughout the unit, Excel will be used for statistical calculations.

Topic 3. Normal probability distributions
Topic 4. Sampling and sampling distributions
Topic 5. Estimation and confidence intervals - single mean and proportion
Topic 6. Fundamentals of hypothesis testing - single mean and proportion
Topic 7. Estimation and hypothesis tests - comparing means and proportions
Topic 8. Simple linear regression and correlation
Topic 9. Introduction to multiple regression
Topic 10. Time series and index numbers
