UG Coursework Unit
Level of learning
Provides students with an understanding of research methods and design so that they can be applied to the study of the science and management of sport and exercise. Students will analyse relevant statistical data and gain an understanding of the research process and ethical issues. Computing skills and appropriate software packages will be introduced that aid with report presentation and analysis.
Topic 1: Introductory concepts and variables
Topic 2: Research design and ethical considerations
Topic 3: Data types and data screening
Topic 4: Descriptive statistics and normality of distribution
Topic 5: Probability and hypothesis testing
Topic 6: Statistical techniques for relationships among variables
Topic 7: Statistical techniques for differences among groups
Topic 8: Nonparametric techniques
Topic 9: Validity, reliability and experimental design
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
