Unit aim

Introduces the practical implications of the conveyancing transaction. Students will cover all areas involved in the preparation and completion of a conveyance of real property together with the preparation of leases and mortgages and the execution and registration thereof.

Module 1: Introduction to Conveyancing Law
Module 2: The contract
Module 3: Vendor obligations at time if contract
Module 4: Matters that can affect a property
Module 5: The position of the parties pending completion
Module 6: Preparing for settlement

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 prepare a Contract for the Sale of Land that complies with the relevant legislative requirements
2 demonstrate an understanding of the statutory and case law governing the selling, purchasing, leasing and mortgaging of interests in land and businesses
3 draft the special conditions necessary to prepare a contract for the sale of land or of a business so as to suit the varying circumstances of these transactions
4 communicate effectively on the conveyancing, leasing and mortgaging of land and the sale of businesses, including possible conflicts of interest and the revenue implications of these transactions.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
