Unit aim

Examines climate change, one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time impacting legislation, economics, politics, corporate and public behaviour. Particular attention is paid to the important role of international law and policy, as well as national regulations of various countries in the fight against climate change. Discussions focus on existing and emerging regulations and frameworks in Australia and internationally, and their impact on the business and public sectors, and on incentives for businesses to reduce emissions, comply with environmental laws, and participate in voluntary programs. Deforestation, and forest protection through international and national programs and regulations, are also discussed.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 critically examine laws and policies related to climate change at the international, national, state and local levels.
2 evaluate the effectiveness of Australian climate regime in the context of the global climate change developments
3 analyse the concepts of sustainable development, climate justice, mitigation and adaptation
4 demonstrate knowledge and understanding of international and Australian climate change laws and policies through critical and reflective analysis of course concepts

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
