Unit aim

Introduces students to the basic principles of eligibility for pension, Commonwealth liability to pay pension and assessment of pension for veterans, including medical concepts and terminology relevant to veterans' claims. Provides students with the ability to assist veterans and their dependants in making claims for pension and preparing applications and written submissions for review of pension decisions.

2 demonstrate an understanding of the circumstances entitling a veteran's claim, and the evidentiary and other requirements for lodging a claim
3 apply knowledge of the legislation to assess the adequacy of evidence supporting a veterans claim
4 determine the likely outcome of particular claims with reference to the applicable standards of proof, Statements of Principles and guidelines for assessment of veterans Pensions
