Unit aim
Examines in detail the provisions of the Family Law Act and the Child Support Legislation. Introduces students to the relationship of traditional families and the family in its extended form to the existing legal system and explores the legal rights and obligations of family members with a particular focus on parenting, property and violence.

Topic 3 Constitutional and jurisdictional issues, the courts and dispute resolution
Topic 4 Marriage and divorce
Topic 5 Violence and abuse
Topic 6 Overview of procedure in family disputes, costs and legal aid
Topic 7 Disputes involving children: legal and procedural issues
Topic 8 ICL, family consultants' reports, child abuse and abduction
Topic 9 Financial support for the family: Child support and child maintenance
Topic 10 Adjustment of Property interests
Topic 11 Interim and urgent property applications and agreements between the parties
Topic 12 Financial support for former married and de facto partners
