Unit aim

Follows on from Chinese Language IA and continues students' introduction to Modern Standard Chinese. It develops students' listening and speaking skills, and introduces them to a wider variety of situations of language use and language patterns. Students will expand their vocabulary and double the number of characters they can read and write.

1 use Chinese appropriately in simple conversations on topics including home, study, daily routines and future plans
2 recognise and produce the tones of Modern Standard Chinese with increasing accuracy
3 read and write simple passages in Chinese of at least 150 characters in length
4 understand and answer questions in spoken Chinese on a known topic
5 recognise and write at least 600 words in Chinese characters.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
